Lobo Player Is Kicked Off Team

New Mexico forward Malcolm Battles was charged with beating his girlfriend and throwing her into a glass window during an argument at the couple’s apartment in Albuquerque. Coach Fran Fraschilla dismissed Battles from the team and said there was no chance the 6-foot-7 junior would return. Battles was released late Tuesday from the Bernalillo County Detention Center on a $15,000 bond. . . . Georgia State Coach Lefty Driesell had surgery to remove bone spurs from his neck and he is expected to be out two weeks.
