Swimmer Is Killed, Apparently by Shark
A Florida man was killed in an apparent shark attack while swimming in a bay behind his home, police and fire officials said. The apparent attack took place in Boca Ciega Bay near St. Pete Beach, a suburb of St. Petersburg. The bay runs into the Gulf of Mexico. Officials said they found bite marks on the man’s body. An official cause of death must be determined by the medical examiner. The victim, believed to be in his 60s, was found floating in the bay by his wife. There have been 20 shark attacks in Florida this year but most have come near the state’s Atlantic beaches. The last fatal attack on the west coast was in 1981.
