Budget Surplus
When this nation was about 200 years old, the Reagan administration succeeded in tripling our national debt in eight years. The result was that the interest on this debt became a major item in our national budget.
Now that the Clinton administration has succeeded in generating a surplus in eight years, the Republicans are crying that they were overtaxed and want their money back rather than using the surplus to reduce our debt. Who are the “big spenders Who are the hypocrites?

Was it not too long ago that we heard that balancing the budget would be harmful? Now returning an overcollection of taxes is viewed in the same vein.
I believe that most taxpayers would forgo a tax cut if they were guaranteed that the people’s surplus would not go to new entitlement programs.
