Pop Music
Scotland’s Battlefield Band, now in its 31st year, is back on a tour that reaches San Juan Capistrano on Sunday. The group is weathering the recent departure for health reasons of guitarist-bodhran player Davy Steele, but it has added singer-guitarist Karine Polwart for the current tour. The quartet’s latest album, “Leaving Friday Harbor,†has plenty of traditional tunes alongside originals by Steele, who left after the album was done, singer-keyboardist Alan Reid, fiddler John McCusker and piper Mike Katz. Among its delightful surprises is Katz’s “Jesse ‘The Body’ Ventura Reel,†surely the only bagpipe-led musical tribute to the flamboyant wrestler-turned-Minnesota governor.
* Battlefield Band, San Juan Capistrano Regional Library, 31495 El Camino Real. 7 and 9 p.m. $3 to $7. (949) 493-1752.
