Surviving With Motochrist and Backstage Passes

So there I was, sandwiched between uber-promoter Bryan Rabin and uber-designer Michael Schmidt (who moved back to L.A. from New York three days earlier) at the world-famous Viper Room, still breathless from a Motochrist performance. I’m tellin’ ya, sometimes it’s good to be the queen. Basically, I got the dish, sauce and spice all in one sitting. (Look for a review of the Viper Room’s Camaro night in coming weeks.) Motochrist (playing tonight at the Cadillac Club at Goldfingers), I’ve decided, is the greatest anti-establishment band since Body Count. If loving them is wrong, I don’t wanna be right. . . .No, I didn’t get an invitation to Gwen Stefani’s party last Saturday, but it’s cool, ‘cause I was kickin’ it backstage with the punk band Face to Face at the House of Blues. Bassist Scott Shiflett told me he was super-stoked to see No Doubt’s Tony Kanal show up during their sold-out, three-night run. I told him I was super-stoked to see his Foo Fighter brother Chris on “Saturday Night Live.†. . . Super-amused to see the anti-Marlboro Man billboard on the Sunset Strip has been replaced with a giant Miller Genuine Draft bottle. Six-pack of one, half-dozen of the other.

The irony of that billboard hit me when I saw yet another ugly car accident outside a club. Maybe the driver had bad peripheral vision. But accidents always remind me, yo, drink responsibly or get with the program. . . . Cooled my heels Monday at Scream and got to hang out with my favorite rock peeps: Mr. Coyote, Lo-Ball’s Pauley Perrette, Motorcycle Boy Eden and Texas Terri. Dayle Gloria introduced me to one of the Romantics, who hipped me to their Scream show Sept. 25. That should keep you warm at night.
