Chamber Concert to Open Season for Mozart Orchestra

The Los Angeles Mozart Orchestra will give eight orchestral performances and two chamber music events, all in Herbert Zipper Concert Hall at the Colburn School of Performing Arts, 200 S. Grand Ave., in downtown Los Angeles, during the 2000-01 season.

A chamber concert begins the season on Nov. 13, when singers Camille King and Jonathan Mack join violinist Aimee Kreston, oboist Leslie Reed, flutist Robert Shulgold, cellist Roger Lebow and harpsichordist Lucinda Carver in a Bach program listing the Sonata for gamba and harpsichord, BWV 1028; selections from “A Musical Offering”; and selections from Cantatas Nos. 36, 189 and 210.

The orchestral season starts Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, when Carver, also music director, conducts a Mozart program consisting of the Overture to “Il Re Pastore,” the Violin Concerto No 4, with soloist Kreston and Symphony No. 40 in G minor.

With programs scheduled on Wednesdays and Fridays, the next pair of concerts, Feb. 7 and 9, will offer Mozart’s “Clemenza di Tito” Overture, Beethoven’s C-minor Piano Concerto with soloist Norman Krieger and Schubert’s Second Symphony.

Carver’s program for March 14 and 16 promises Bach’s “Brandenburg” Concerto No. 1, the world premiere of Byron Adams’ Cello Concerto with soloist Roger Lebow and Mozart’s Divertimento in F, K. 247.

On May 9 and 11, the season-closing program lists Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 2 with soloist Richard Todd and the Symphony No. 39, Haydn’s Symphony No. 96 and Gerald Finzi’s Serenade for Strings, Opus 11.

The other chamber concert is Jan. 8, when the ensemble offers Mozart’s Violin Sonata in B flat, K. 454, the Piano Quartet in C minor by Faure and Brahms’ Piano Quintet in F minor, Opus 34.
