American Legion Post 857 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4048 are proposing a memorial to victims of 20th century wars, including Americans who were killed, disabled or have lost family members. General plans call for life-size statues of a grieving woman and two children.
Possible sites include Eisenhower Park close to the pier and the proposed park area next to the San Gabriel River channel, said American Legion member Joe Palmer. The group’s proposal has not yet been made to the City Council.
The veterans meet at the Naval Weapons Station, Building 6, on the third Tuesday of every month. New members are welcome. Information: (562) 596-3950.
