Devey Reaps Benefits of Better Support
Pitcher Phil Devey is getting a little more from his efforts these days.
Devey, a left-hander, is 5-11 this season, but is 2-0 with a 2.74 earned-run average in his last three starts. He had his first complete game during that stretch.
Devey, a fifth-round pick in 1999, hasn’t pitched poorly, but he did not receive much support early in the year. He was 0-3 in April despite a 2.81 ERA. He has a 3.91 ERA overall.
The Dodgers will send six players to the Arizona Fall League, including their top prospect, outfielder Chin-Feng Chen, who is hitting a disappointing .276 at double-A San Antonio.
Chen hit .316 with 31 home runs and drove in 123 runs with Class-A San Bernardino last season. He has five home runs and 63 RBIs this season.
Also going to Arizona are pitchers Adrian Burnside, Kris Foster and Jeff Williams, third baseman Luke Allen and outfielder Bubba Crosby.
