Ex-Border Guard Chief Sentenced

A former East German border guard commander was convicted of manslaughter in the shooting deaths of East Germans trying to escape, including the last person to die at the Berlin Wall. Walter Schulze, 52, was convicted on four counts for deaths stemming from his tenure as commander from 1985 until the wall’s collapse in 1989. He was sentenced to slightly more than two years in prison.
