Baker in Semifinals at British Mid-Amateur
Don Baker of Canoga Park won two matches Saturday and reached the semifinals of the British Mid-Amateur Championship at Royal Troon Golf Club in Troon, Scotland.
Baker, the only American remaining in the field, upset co-medalist Giles Legg of Dudsbury Golf Club in Dorset, England, in the third round, 2 and 1.
In the afternoon, Baker downed Nicolas Bell of Carlisle Golf Club in Cumbria, England, 1 up, in the quarterfinals.
Baker plays Andrew Farmer of Kilmacolm Golf Club, outside of Glasgow, Scotland, this morning in the semifinals. The final will be played in the afternoon.
SOFTBALL
* The Antelope Valley District 51 All-Stars lost to Michigan District 2, 3-0, Saturday in the final game of the Big League Softball World Series in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Antelope Valley finished with a 5-2 record in the double-elimination tournament.
TENNIS
* Bruno Echagaray defeated Lester Cook of Sherman Oaks, 7-6 (4), 6-4, in the semifinals of the U.S. Tennis Assn. Junior International Grass Court Championships on Saturday at Philadelphia, Pa.
