4 Killed as Rival PRI Factions Clash
At least four people were killed and 50 others wounded when rival members of Mexico’s ruling party clashed in a city near the capital, officials said. Mexico state Atty. Gen. Gerardo Sanchez said three people had been beaten to death and one shot and killed in Chimalhuacan, about 20 miles northeast of Mexico City. But officials from one of the Revolutionary Institutional Party, or PRI, factions said the toll was higher. Jesus Tolentino, the recently elected mayor of Chimalhuacan, said nine of his supporters were killed and more than 80 were wounded in the clash with backers of a local rival.
