Kendrick Russell Eilar, 76, a chemical engineering environmental consultant. Born in Laramie, Wyo., Eilar attended schools in Albuquerque, then earned a bachelor’s degree from Harvard and a doctorate in organic and physical chemistry at the University of Colorado. After postgraduate studies at the University of Illinois, he enlisted in the Naval Reserve aviation program, completing his flight training at the end of World War II. Eilar pursued his career in Whittier, where he served as director of research for the American Potash & Chemical Co. and the Roberts Division of Champion International. Later, he became a consultant for chemical, environmental, product liability and forensics cases. In 1989, the Whittier City Council named Eilar to a citizens committee to help monitor development of a local hazardous waste disposal company. Eilar served as chairman of the Southern California chapter of the American Chemical Society and as the group’s voluntary technical advisor to California’s congressional delegation. He also was on the mathematics and science curriculum advisory committee of the Whittier Union High School District and was a member of the council of the Plymouth Congregational Church and the board of its Plymouth Christian School. On Aug. 8 in Whittier of cancer.
