Man Struck, Killed While Pushing Pickup on Freeway
INDUSTRY — One man was killed and another was injured Thursday after a suspected drunk driver hit them as they pushed a pickup truck on the shoulder of the San Gabriel River Freeway, authorities said.
Gustavo Villearreal Jr., 32, of Alhambra and a 25-year-old friend from Rosemead were pushing the truck along the right shoulder south of Peck Road about 10:30 p.m. when they were hit from behind, CHP Officer Frank Sansone said
Villearreal died at the scene and his friend was taken to Beverly Hospital with moderate injuries, officers said.
The driver, Hector Hernandez, 20, of Maywood, suffered minor injuries and was arrested on suspicion of causing death and bodily injury while driving under the influence.
