A consumer’s guide to the best and worst of sports media and merchandise. Ground rules: If it can be read, played, heard, observed, worn, viewed, dialed or downloaded, it’s in play here.
What: www.Stablegate.com
Launch date: Today
Interested in horses? Here’s an all-inclusive Web site for you. There are other horse racing Web sites, but this is one that deals with a variety of equine interests. Besides horse racing news and topics, pages focus on Western riding, English riding, rodeo, breeding, health, travel and entertainment.
The Web site was created by eStable, Inc. of Torrance. Paul Magnier, founder of eStable, says, “The goal of Stablegate.com is to wire the horse industry by bringing together its fragments.”
According to company officials, in coming months, Stablegate.com will add a database directory, including names of more than 150,000 horse-related businesses, associations, service providers and professionals. The plan is to constantly expand the database, allowing users to find virtually anyone or anything horse related.
Also to be added is a secure online shopping area, featuring equine products and services. In development is a component for those interested in breeding horses.
An agreement with the National Thoroughbred Racing Assn. calls for eStable to supply news to ESPN.com for its horse racing section, and eStable will also sponsor a number of equestrian events, including the Washington International Horse Show.
Stablegate.com’s advisory board includes former jockeys Gary Stevens and Bill Shoemaker, harness rider John D. Campbell, champion show jumper Margie Goldstein-Engle, trainers Wayne Lukas and Bob Baffert, rodeo champion Ty Murray and Olympic-bound dressage rider Kathleen Raine.
