Last Big Reformist Newspaper Shuttered

Iran’s conservatives, bolstered by support from supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, closed the last major reformist newspaper and mobilized thousands of protesters against press freedoms. The hard-line Press Court ordered the immediate closure of the popular Bahar daily, and protesters called for the death and expulsion of those who challenge an order from Khamenei that squelched debate on easing the country’s restrictive press law.
