SYLMAR — A 20-year-old motorist was killed early Tuesday morning when his vehicle slammed into a metal guard rail on the Foothill Freeway and flew off the roadway, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
Edward Flores, of Sylmar, was driving a 1993 Toyota Corolla eastbound about 4 a.m. at about 100 mph when the vehicle drifted off the road and hit the guard rail, CHP Officer Doug Sweeney said.
The crash sent the car airborne for about 165 feet, flying over Glenoaks Boulevard before landing on its roof on a shoulder of the road near the intersection of Glenoaks and Foothill boulevards.
Flores was taken to Olive View Medical Center in Sylmar, where he was pronounced dead.
