Costa Mesa Man Wins Martin 16 Boat Race

Lee Buratti of Costa Mesa won the six-race, single-handed Martin 16 boat competition in the U.S. Independence Cup/North American Challenge Cup that was completed Monday on Lake Michigan.

MOTOR RACING

Speedway motorcycle races at the Orange County Fairgrounds will be free to children 12 and under as part of Kids Night on Saturday.

Speedway and sidecars will be part of the program, along with the Yamaha Pee Wee 50 racers, which includes participants 6-10 years of age.

Before the racing begins at 7:30, many of surfing’s top competitors will be on hand for autographs and pictures in advance of the O’Neill Lost Summer Surfing Festival Aug. 18-20 at San Clemente Pier.

Admission is $10 for adults, $6 for juniors 13-17 and seniors 60 and over.

WATER POLO

The Trabuco Hills TRAP 18-and-under girls’ water polo team won two games Monday on the second day of the National Junior Olympic water polo tournament at El Toro High.

The TRAP defeated Contra Costa, 15-1, in the opener and Harvard, 6-4, in the second game.
