Beach Closures
Four Ventura County beaches will be posted with no-swimming signs this weekend due to excessive bacteria in surf, the county Environmental Health Division reported Thursday.
Test results show pollution prevails at two Rincon Beach locations, at the creek mouth and near the flagpole, as well as at Hobie Beach and Channel Islands Harbor Beach Park in Oxnard. Although the precise source of the pollution is unknown, water quality near storm drains typically suffers from contaminated runoff from farms and cities.
Swimmers, waders and surfers should keep at least 50 yards from each side of posted warning signs to avoid bacteria in ocean water.
Weekly beach testing occurs at 53 locations in Ventura County, and results can be obtained by calling the county ocean water quality hotline at 662-6555 or by visiting the Web site at www.ventura.org/env_hlth/ocean.htm.
