Public’s Help Sought in Fatal Freeway Shooting
VAN NUYS — Police on Thursday asked for the public’s help in locating a man who is alleged to have killed a 21-year-old Pacoima man and wounded another during a high-speed chase in Van Nuys two weeks ago.
Police said they believe Jose Marin, 23, of North Hollywood was responsible for the death of Ricardo Tellez of Pacoima. Marin, a reputed gang member whose body is covered with tattoos, allegedly shot the victim and two friends during a four-mile rolling gun battle. He remains at large.
Marin’s “disregard for life during the pursuit was evident,” said Det. Al Aldaz of the Police Department’s Van Nuys Division. “He needs to be taken off the street.”
Aldaz said police suspect that Marin, who is on parole for a robbery conviction, is still in the area.
Marin is about 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighs about 145 pounds. He has brown eyes and usually has a shaved head. Anyone with information is asked to call police detectives at (818) 756-8371.
