Blair’s Goal Lifts OCC in Water Polo

Laura Blair’s goal with 2:30 left in regulation broke a tie and Orange Coast went on to defeat Diablo Valley, 9-7, in the quarterfinals of the Diablo Valley women’s water polo tournament Saturday.
After Blair’s goal had given the Pirates an 8-7 lead, Jessica Hylton scored with 15 seconds leftto clinch the victory.
Blair scored three goals and had one assist to lead the Pirates (7-1), who play Merced, the top-ranked team in Northern California, today in the semifinals at 11:20 a.m. at Diablo Valley.
Narrissa Reidenbaugh had a goal, four assists and three steals for Orange Coast, which handed Diablo Valley (3-1) its first loss. Hylton had three assists.
In another tournament game:
Golden West 12, Citrus 3--Sharon Vanderpas had two goals in the second quarter, when Golden West scored five times to take a 7-0 halftime lead. Golden West plays Modesto in the semifinals today.
In the Golden West Central Park men’s cross-country classic:
Rustlers place 10th--Golden West’s top finisher, Scott De Boer, placed 47th in 22:49 to help the Rustlers finish 10th with 282 points. Glendale placed first with 38 points, followed by San Diego Mesa with 55.
In the Golden West Central Park women’s cross-country classic:
Sweatman finishes 10th--Beckie Sweatman placed 10th with a time of 20:43 to help Golden West secure a seventh-place finish with 148 points. San Diego Mesa placed first with 62 points and Moorpark was second with 97.
