* Buena High baseball Coach Stan Hedegard has resigned after 15 years at the school.
Hedegard said he wants to spend more time with his family, but does not rule out returning in a year or two.
“I’m trying to get to know my kids again,” Hedegard said. “And I’m trying to get to know the feeling of what a spring break is like.”
VOLLEYBALL
* Royal High tied for third place in the Orange County girls’ volleyball tournament.
The Highlanders lost to Santa Ana Calvary Chapel in a semifinal match, 15-7, 15-12.
In the tournament playoffs, Royal defeated Capistrano Valley, 15-8, 15-2, and Long Beach Poly, 15-5, 15-1, both ranked in the Southern Section Division I-AA poll. Royal also defeated Bishop Montgomery, 15-9, 15-12, in pool play.
Harvard-Westlake and Thousand Oaks lost in the first round.
Liberty Christian won its own tournament for the second consecutive year.
