Volunteers to Help Paint the Town

An estimated 2,000 volunteers with the United Way of Greater Los Angeles will paint, plant gardens and refurbish charity facilities and schools serving low-income families Saturday during the ninth annual Day of Caring.
Home Depot will furnish $15,000 in building and painting supplies.
The event is part of a national campaign to encourage people to get involved in their neighborhoods.
“Here are these people who work and work and work but cannot afford basic needs,” said Todd Rosin, a spokesman for the United Way of Greater Los Angeles.
Often, Rosin said, they are people who work several low-paying jobs, sometimes without benefits such as health insurance. “They’re not sitting around twiddling their thumbs,” he said. “They work as hard as anyone else.”
Volunteers from companies who support the United Way will work at agencies throughout Los Angeles County, including sites in the San Fernando, Santa Clarita and Antelope valleys.
United Way is the largest private funder of health and human services in Los Angeles County.
