* Update--Cobi Jones tonight will become the fourth Galaxy player to appear in 100 MLS games, joining Greg Vanney (112), Mauricio Cienfuegos (104) and Jorge Salcedo (101). In his 99 games to date, Jones has 38 goals and 34 assists. Starting goalkeeper Kevin Hartman will be backed by former Marquette University keeper Jim Welch, who was called up from the U.S. Project-40 squad in the A-League to fill in for the injured Matt Reis, who has a strained abdomen. Defender Paul Caligiuri is questionable because of a groin strain, but former Fire player Zak Ibsen, who has flu, is listed as probable. The Fire will be without Lubos Kubik, the 1998 MLS defender of the year, who is in the Czech Republic for personal reasons. The Galaxy is 8-0 at home against Western Conference opponents. In the teams’ most recent game, July 31 at Soldier Field, the Galaxy edged the Fire, 1-0, on a goal by Simon Elliott.
