Spanish Civil War
What history book has Philip Brandes been reading? In his review of “The Hemingway/Dos Passos Wars” (Sept. 2), he states that both writers began on the same side--supporting the revolt against Franco’s fascists. It so happens that it was Franco and his fascist cohorts who revolted against a democratically elected government. He was aided by German (Nazi) arms and airplanes. Ever hear of Guernica?
The Spanish Civil War has rightly been called the prelude of or the testing ground for World War II.
