FOCUS: ORANGE COUNTY COMMUNITY NEWS : LA HABRA
The Community Services Commission held a public hearing Wednesday night with community members to discuss plans for La Bonita Park. Gregory Kind, director of the Community Services Department, said he hopes the hearing will help decide what will benefit both the neighborhood and the city.
Residents of the neighborhood are strongly opposed to a plan for the park, which includes four lighted softball diamonds, a multipurpose court, a playground, picnic areas, a skateboard park and expanded parking around the site. Neighbors are against commercializing the park, citing increased traffic and noise.
The La Bonita Park plan came about as a result of a 1997 Parks and Recreation study that found the city lacked enough baseball fields to meet growing demand. Currently, there is one softball field at La Bonita Park.
