Just when you thought there was no more room on the newsstands for another magazine, along comes Angeleno. The upscale lifestyle magazine was to celebrate its launch Thursday night in Beverly Hills with celebrities from the worlds of film, television, music, interior design, fashion and food mingling on two floors of Barneys New York.

The magazine is the brainchild of publisher Michael Blaise Kong of Ventura, who also has a similar publication called Chicago Social. Kimberly Cutter, Angeleno senior editor, said Los Angeles is ripe for a lifestyle magazine because “there hasn’t been one out here yet that caters to a very affluent readership. The city magazines are good at being city magazines, but they do not hone in on lifestyle.”

Driving Forces: General Motors, GQ magazine and the Arquette family were to team up Thursday night for a cocktail party at Eurochow restaurant to honor men who have made a significant impact in the fight against breast cancer. Breast cancer is close to the hearts of those in the Arquette family, including actors Rosanna, Patricia and David Arquette, who lost their mother Mardi to the disease last year.

The five men honored at the event were actor Joseph Fiennes, menswear designer Joseph Abboud, football coach Don Shula, former NFL player Chris Spielman and Dr. Dennis Slamon of the UCLA Women’s Cancer Research Program. Proceeds from the event will benefit GM’s “Concept: Cure” initiative to raise funds and awareness in the battle against breast cancer.

Star Power: Bloomingdale’s is partnering with the Entertainment Industry Foundation and the National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance, founded in 1999 by Katie Couric and Lilly Tartikoff, to raise funds to find a cure for colorectal cancer.

Today through Oct. 2, a portion of every purchase made in stores nationwide with a Bloomingdale’s card will be donated to the alliance. In addition, Bloomingdale’s has designed for sale “The Caring Star,” a sterling silver star that is the symbol of the campaign ($12). It can be worn as a pendant or a brooch. Proceeds go directly to the research organization.

Emmy Extras: For those who want a souvenir from the 51st Annual Emmy Awards on Sunday, there is now a collection of Academy of Television Arts & Sciences memorabilia available for sale online.

The Television Academy Foundation, the nonprofit arm of the academy, will offer a commemorative poster, along with other collectibles and wearables, with a percentage of net proceeds going to educational and research programs.

The collection includes totes, note cards and selected clothing, as well as a limited-edition poster signed by this year’s winners. Prices range from $15.95 for a cap to $49.95 for a legal-sized leather portfolio to $74.95 for the signed poster.

Dramatic Dress: He has infiltrated the pop music world, can television be far behind? A spokesman for Tommy Hilfiger acknowledged the designer is in talks with Columbia TriStar Television to provide wardrobe in a promotional link similar to the deal American Eagle has with “Dawson’s Creek.” While the details have not been finalized, Hilfiger will be hooking into a top-rated one-hour drama.

In Short: XOXO has signed a lease for a 2,000-square-foot flagship store on Rodeo Drive to open in October. . . . Los Angeles fashion designer Cynthia Vincent and fashion publicist Alisa Loftin are teaming up to open a retail store in Los Feliz. . . . Aero & Co., a lifestyle store with jewelry, handbags, shoes, home furnishings and more will open in October. . . . Macy’s and American Express Passport ’99 Extreme will present a runway extravaganza with Elizabeth Taylor, Magic Johnson, Cindy Crawford, Tommy Hilfiger and Cynthia Rowley on Sept. 25 in Santa Monica. In-store fashion shows will be held Sept. 25 and 26. All proceeds will benefit research, prevention and treatment of HIV and AIDS.
