COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Heck Leads Rustlers to 1st Win

Shanda Heck scored in the 52nd minute to give Golden West its first goal and first victory of the season, 1-0, against Cerritos. Angela Berardini got the assist. Goalie Niki Dohan saved the victory for the Rustlers (1-2) by blocking a penalty kick from Vanessa Sanchez in the 88th minute.
In other nonconference women’s soccer:
Irvine Valley 8, Mt. San Jacinto 2--Julie Welc opened the scoring for the Lasers (2-1) with a goal in the third minute. Shavon Melendez scored her second goal of the game on a header in the 24th minute. Nichole Olson and Elizabeth Lundh each scored twice for Irvine Valley in the second half.
Moorpark 1, Fullerton 0--Elena Katus scored 11 minutes into the game to lead Moorpark (2-1). Amanda Kendrick had 14 saves for Fullerton (0-4).
In nonconference men’s soccer:
Fullerton 4, Cerritos 1--Andrew May, Hector Navarro, Victor Ferrel and Elias Ferrel scored as Fullerton (5-0) remained undefeated in nonconference play. Cerritos is 2-2-2.
