VAN NUYS — Five people were seriously injured in a traffic accident involving two vehicles Saturday night.
The collision occurred at the intersection of Vanowen Street and Sepulveda Boulevard at 8:35 p.m.
A 12-year-old girl, an 11-year-old boy and two women--44 and 40--were in one vehicle.
A 28-year-old man was driving the other vehicle, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Bob Collis.
Firefighters had to free several of the victims who were trapped in the wreckage, he said.
Ambulances took the children to the UCLA Medical Center and the 40-year-old woman to Northridge Hospital Medical Center. The man, who suffered back and neck injuries, and the 44-year-old woman were taken to Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys.
All were in serious condition, Collis said.
