OUTLOOK
Magnolia ended the last two seasons with losing streaks after shining during nonleague play. This season Friedrich hopes to reverse that trend. “We put a lot of effort into nonleague games in the past and have been hurt down the stretch,” Friedrich said. “This year we’re going to do a better job of coaching.” Sekona is a returning all-league defensive back who has drawn the attention of some major college programs with his size and athleticism, but he’ll be needed more on offense. Sekona will be counted on to replace Will Speer (1,039 yards, 15 touchdowns), but he won’t be alone on offense. Davis is the only returning quarterback in the league and he’ll have a big target in Henry. “I don’t think there’s a better quarterback in North County,” Friedrich said. Martin was the team’s second-leading receiver last season, and Moye leads a strong corps of offensive linemen that finished third at the Fountain Valley lineman competition.
