OUTLOOK

Eggers was hired just before fall practice started last year and had to scramble to field a varsity team. He says the building process will continue this season. Eggers doesn’t mince words when discussing the job he’s assigned, but prefers not to dwell on the past, either. “We’re looking to improve on being competitive,” he said. He took a big step last season, guiding the Seahawks to the most victories they have had since 1995. But the Seahawks have advanced to the playoffs only twice in school history and last made a playoff appearance in 1990. Houston at free safety and Hill at inside linebacker are two returning first-team, all-league selections and Eggers believes they are among the league’s best. In fact, the Ocean View defense will be the team’s strong point this season. “We are quick to get to the ball and we are experienced,” Eggers said. Houston is penciled in as the team’s quarterback, a position he had to take over midway through last season when Scott McMahan went down with an injury.
