OUTLOOK

Capps said his team will be more competitive this season, and he has some playmakers. Joiner, a first-team all-league receiver, returns with Poole, a speedy running back. “He can make things happen,” Capps said. Johnson also returns at quarterback. But Capps knows the defense has to improve after giving up 400 points last season. Marvin, Powell and Rogalski, the freshman team’s MVP, will try to start a defensive turnaround.
