FOCUS: ORANGE COUNTY COMMUNITY NEWS : FOUNTAIN VALLEY
Retired University of Southern California professor W. Ross Winterowd will teach a weekly writing class for elderly folks at Fountain Valley High School starting this fall.
He said his class is anything but old-fashioned, although some students find his grading scale hard to swallow.
For the final exam, the professor invites the class to his Huntington Beach home for chili. Downing one bowl will earn a student a C, two bowls a B and a mighty three bowls gets you an A, he said.
“One student couldn’t eat any chili, so I had to give her an incomplete,” he said, laughing.
