In the Academy League:
Capistrano Valley Christian 42, Los Angeles Ribet Academy 6--Dustin Smith ran for 137 yards and two touchdowns, part of a 278-yard rushing day for the Eagles, who remained unbeaten in league play with a road victory. The Eagles (7-1, 2-0) dominated line play on both offense and defense, getting touchdowns on the ground from four different players and shutting down Kirk Cooper, Ribet’s standout running back.
Cooper gained only 67 yards in 14 carries. The Eagles also harassed Ribet quarterback Travis Jenkins, holding him to two completions and sacking him three times.
Bryan Peters rushed for 93 yards in nine carries for the Eagles, scoring on a two-yard run that gave them a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Smith’s six-yard scoring run made it 14-0 at the half.
Cooper’s three-yard scoring run cut the margin to 14-6. But the Eagles rallied behind quarterback Jason Ward, who scored on a one-yard run and teamed with Thomas Grove on a 10-yard touchdown pass for a 28-6 lead after three quarters. Grove also scored on a 12-yard run for the game’s final touchdown.
