Palisades’ Koral Throws for State-Record 583 Yards
Palisades High quarterback David Koral broke the state record for passing yards in a game Friday by completing 46 of 51 passes for 583 yards and eight touchdowns in a 61-6 Western League victory over Fairfax at Fairfax.
Koral, a junior, utilized 22 shovel passes to break the record of 564 yards set by Doug Baughman of Garden Grove Bolsa Grande in 1996 against Westminster La Quinta. Koral also tied the record of 46 completions in a game set by Perry Klein of Palisades in 1987 against Los Angeles Jordan. Klein also completed 22 shovel passes in that game.
Koral played the entire game against Fairfax. Three of his touchdown passes came on shovel passes, including his last one with 9:31 left.
Palisades improved to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in league. Fairfax (0-8, 0-5) has lost 42 consecutive games, four short of the state record set by Moorpark in 1982.
Geoff MacArthur had 11 receptions for 233 yards and three touchdowns for Palisades.
