Savanna Runs All Over Anaheim, 45-0
Micos Benjamin and Marcus Jimmerson took turns running through the Anaheim defense as Savanna beat the Colonists, 45-0, in an Orange League game Thursday night at Glover Stadium.
Benjamin rushed for a season-high 133 yards for the Rebels, including a six-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Jimmerson saw a bit less action than usual, but still rushed for 83 yards and four touchdowns, one in each quarter. The sophomore also accounted for 86 yards on two punt returns and a kickoff return.
Anaheim (1-6, 0-3) suffered its third shutout in as many league games, although it nearly took an early lead. David Lopez started a run at his 20 and broke away, with a touchdown-saving tackle at the Savanna 24 by Tommy Sutter holding him to a 56-yard gain.
The Colonists eventually turned over the ball on downs at the Savanna 3, and the Rebels drove 97 yards for game’s first score. Jimmerson did the honors, going through the left side from three yards.
Savanna (4-4, 2-1) scored on all seven of its possessions before taking a knee to run out the clock on its final possession.
The closest Anaheim came after its opening possession was on the final play of the first half, when receiver Juan Jimenez was knocked out at the Savanna 12 after time expired.
Jimenez was injured on the play and missed the second half.
