Ovitz, Jeeves Team Up: Hollywood deal maker Michael Ovitz said Wednesday he’s taking on some new talent: the fictional Internet gofer Jeeves the butler. Ovitz has teamed up with Ask Jeeves Inc., which uses the butler’s character on its Ask.com search site as a kind of Web-surfing domestic servant to track down information for computer users. Ask Jeeves has retained Ovitz’s Lynx Technology Group and his talent agency, Artists Management Group, to help take the butler beyond the Internet with potential merchandising, animation and placement in movies and television shows. There’s a lot of opportunity for tie-ins using the character,” Ovitz said. Ask Jeeves operates a site that allows Internet browsers to type in real-language questions, rather than key words. Jeeves then directs users to an appropriate site chosen by the company’s editors.
