TUSTIN
Tustin Ranch Elementary School students will track yachtsman and boat designer Gino Morrelli of Tustin via the Internet as he and 10 other crew members attempt to break a sailing record from New York to England.
The crew will have to sail from New York City to Lizard Head, England in less than six days, 13 hours and three minutes to beat the Trans-Atlantic world record, which was set in 1990.
The crew will be on standby beginning today until the weather is favorable for the 3,000-mile voyage.
“It’s very big,” said Morrelli, who co-designed the catamaran called Play Station. “This is like an America’s Cup for me.”
Anyone who wants to track Play Station through its voyage across the Atlantic can visit the Web site, https://www.fossettchallenge.com/.
