Amgen Gives $5,000 to AIDS Partnership

* Ventura County AIDS Partnership has received a $5,000 contribution from the Amgen Foundation. The money will be used to fund HIV prevention education programs and patient care services for low-income residents. The donation is eligible for challenge grant matching funds from the National AIDS Fund.

Cancer Survivor Honored as Top Volunteer * Sherith Perez of Oxnard has been awarded the Helen Beebe Outstanding Volunteer Award from the American Cancer Society, Gold Coast Region. Perez has served as chairwoman for the Relay for Life fund-raisers in Oxnard and Camarillo, which grossed more than $115,000 in September. Perez, a seven-year cancer survivor, also volunteers her time for Reach to Recovery, a one-to-one visitation program for women who have had breast cancer.

Supervisor Long to Get Service Award * The Anti-Defamation League will honor Ventura County Supervisor Kathy Long with its Distinguished Public Service Award during ceremonies today in Los Angeles. The league annually recognizes members of the community who perform “outside the call of duty†and “give generously of their time and talent.†Through its programs, the Anti-Defamation League combats prejudice, bigotry, anti-Semitism and discrimination.
