Saugus (4-2), embarrassed by Hart, 43-3, last week, will get to lick its wounds for the next two weeks against Canyon and Burbank, which have combined for only two victories.

Despite the lack of offense against Hart, the Centurions average 31 points a game, nearly twice as many as Canyon.

Still, Coach Ron Hilton of Saugus worries Canyon’s double-wing offense will cause problems for the Centurions.

“I hate [the double-wing offense],” Hilton said. “It’s confusing. It looks like an 8-year-olds’ soccer game.

“Our offense has to do what it’s supposed to do or it could be a lot closer than it’s supposed to be.”

Not even Harry Welch’s return to coaching last week should overshadow what’s going on at Valencia.

Sure the offense rolls. But the defense rocks. Especially in the last two games.

The Vikings, led by linebacker Ray Cassaday and tackle Kaelen Jakes, are allowing only 192.8 yards a game and have not been scored upon in two weeks.

Larry Muir, the defensive coordinator, deserves most of the credit, Coach Brian Stiman said.

“[Our defense is] very underrated,” Stiman said. “[Muir’s] doing a great job. He’s done nothing but great things since he got here.”
