School Bus Hit by Truck Whose Driver Flees Scene
CULVER CITY — A school bus carrying 53 children was struck Wednesday morning by a hit-and-run driver of a big rig, the CHP said.
The bus was traveling west on the Marina Freeway in Culver City en route to Broadway Elementary School in Santa Monica about 8 a.m. when a Toyota Camry cut it off, forcing the bus to break abruptly. An 18-wheeler then hit the rear end of the bus, and the driver kept going, California Highway Patrol Officer Rosa Ray said.
Some children complained that they had bumped their heads on the seats in front of them. As a precaution, firefighters drove the bus with all the occupants to Brotman Medical Center. Fifteen children and the driver were examined, a hospital spokesperson said.
The CHP said it has no witnesses nor the license plate number of the 18-wheeler.
