Late Goal Powers Irvine to Water Polo Victory

Sophomore Jeff Powers scored the game-winner in the fourth quarter to lead seventh-ranked UC Irvine to a 7-5 victory over fifth-ranked Long Beach State in nonconference water polo Tuesday at Belmont Plaza.
Powers scored with one minute 50 seconds left in the fourth quarter and Chris Kirchwehn sealed the victory, scoring in the final minute.
At the Cal State Northridge intercollegiate golf tournament:
Anteaters finish third--UC Irvine freshman Mike Lavery finished 11th, shooting a six-over 222 at the 54-hole event.
In nonconference men’s soccer:
Chapman 2, Claremont Mudd 1--Aaron Poling and Colin McLean scored second-half goals to lead visiting Chapman.
In nonconference women’s volleyball:
UC San Diego 3, Cal State Fullerton 1--Debra Robertson had nine kills to lead visiting UC San Diego (15-3), which won, 15-2, 15-5, 5-15, 15-8. Fullerton (5-16) was led by Jamie Ivers and Megan Sabo with 13 kills each.
In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s volleyball:
Christian Heritage 3, Concordia 0--Sarah Cisneros had 12 kills and Danielle Starley and Heather Davis each had 11 for host Christian Heritage (14-9, 7-6), which won 15-2, 15-10, 15-13.
