Health Officials Out to Stop Mosquitoes
The Ventura County Environmental Health Division is urging residents to remove stagnant water from their property to help reduce the risk of encephalitis, a virus carried by mosquitoes.
The mosquito species that transits encephalitis is common in Ventura County, but is being monitored by the health division. The disease has recently caused several deaths in New York City.
The public can help by eliminating areas where mosquitoes lay eggs, such as water collected in barrels, old tires, watering troughs, ornamental ponds or neglected swimming pools.
