Vikings’ Smith to Undergo Surgery

Minnesota Viking running back Robert Smith will undergo hernia surgery and is expected to be sidelined for three to six weeks, Coach Dennis Green said.

Leroy Hoard is expected to replace Smith.

Philadelphia defensive end Hugh Douglas tore a biceps tendon in his right arm against Chicago and will be out indefinitely, pending an exam today. . . . The Carolina Panthers will be without three starters after beating San Francisco, losing left guard Matt Campbell (sprained knee), wide receiver Rae Carruth (sprained ankle) and defensive end Jason Peter (shoulder tendinitis) for extended periods.
