Mikulich’s Late Run Caps Big Comeback for Chaminade, 38-30
Dennis Mikulich scored on a one-yard touchdown run with 31 seconds to play, giving Chaminade High a 38-30 come-from-behind victory over Bishop Montgomery in a nonleague game Friday night at Chaminade.
The Eagles (2-2) overcame a 16-0 first-quarter deficit.
With the score 30-30, Pat O’Connor intercepted a pass by Jon Sarmiento late in the fourth quarter at the Bishop Montgomery 40-yard line to set up the winning touchdown. After Mikulich’s score, quarterback Jon Palacios ran for a two-point conversion.
Palacios completed 12 of 18 passes for 131 yards and scored the tying touchdown on a one-yard run with three minutes to play.
Mikulich rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns in 22 carries.
Darrell Mason scored on an 11-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter to cut Bishop Montgomery’s lead to 24-10.
Chaminade scored 14 unanswered points in the third quarter to pull even, 24-24. Mikulich ran 11 yards for a touchdown and Mason returned a punt 68 yards for a score.
Bishop Montgomery (2-2) went ahead, 30-24, on a three-yard touchdown run by Stanley Wilson early in the fourth quarter. A two-point conversion attempt failed.
