Travis Morse is in some fast company.
The Palmdale senior may be the fastest receiver in the region.
“Judging by the film, that guy is the fastest we’ve ever seen,” said assistant Dean Herrington of Hart. “And we played against R.J. Soward [of Eisenhower] in ’93 and ’94.”
As a junior, Morse won the Golden League championship in the 100 meters in 10.5 seconds.
He’s also a quick study.
Morse dropped several passes and had only two receptions after two games, but he had five catches for 157 yards and three touchdowns last week against Bloomington.
“He’s still making the transition from track,” said Palmdale Coach Jeff Williams. “He’s gaining confidence every week.”
Morse may have another transition ahead. He is being recruited by Oregon, Oregon State, Washington State and San Jose State, among others, but as a defensive back.
“I think they like his closing speed,” Williams said.
