Woman Shot by Ex-Boyfriend Dies, Son Still Critical
LOS ANGELES — Maritza Solis, who was shot along with her toddler son Wednesday by a jealous ex-boyfriend, died early Friday morning at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center.
Her 22-month-old son, Angel Vega Jr., remained in critical condition in intensive care but was improving, said a hospital spokeswoman.
Both were shot in the head when Angel Vega ambushed them Wednesday night as they were returning to their East Los Angeles home from her sister’s birthday party. Vega then shot himself and died at the scene.
Solis, 24, was taken off life support after she was declared brain-dead at 1 a.m. Friday, the spokeswoman said.
