Motorola, PC-TEL Settle Dueling Suits
Bloomberg News
Motorola and smaller rival PC-TEL Inc. have settled patent infringement lawsuits over modem technology by agreeing to license each other’s innovations, both companies said. Schaumburg, Ill.-based Motorola filed suit in federal court in Delaware in October 1998 alleging PC-TEL had wrongfully incorporated its patented technology for modems and methods of encoding phone signals. PC-TEL had filed a nearly identical suit in the same court a month earlier. Motorola and PC-TEL officials wouldn’t comment on whether any cash payments were made as part of the settlement. Motorola shares closed up $1.06 at $89.06 on the New York Stock Exchange.
