Beach Report
Two popular Ventura County beaches have been declared unsafe for swimming through the weekend due to excessive bacteria in the water. Signs warning people to stay out of the surf have been posted at Promenade Park between Figueroa Street and the Ventura pier and at Channel Islands Harbor Beach Park in Oxnard, popularly known as the “kiddy beach,†the Ventura County Environmental Health Division reported Thursday.
Swimmers, waders and surfers should stay at least 50 yards away from each side of the signs, officials advised. All other county beaches remain open.
Weekly beach testing occurs at 53 locations in Ventura County. Results can be obtained by calling the county ocean water quality hotline at 805-662-6555 or visiting the Web site at https://www.ventura.org/env_hlth/ocean.htm.
