Jonathan Evers Boe, a professor and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, died Monday at UCLA Medical Center. He was 55.
Boe was born Jan. 30, 1944, in Chicago, where he grew up and graduated from high school.
He went on to graduate from Carleton College in Minnesota. He received a PhD in American history from Stanford University.
On Oct. 25, 1969, he married Jeanne Myers. Shortly after, the couple moved to Thousand Oaks.
He went to work for Cal Lutheran in 1970. He edited three diaries of historical figures and wrote a book on American history, “American Business: The Response to the Soviet Union.â€
His wife said that he enjoyed traveling, spending time with his cat, Sparky, and that he loved to write.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Myrtle Evers Boe of Waupaca, Wis.
A memorial service was held at Cal Lutheran’s Samuelson Chapel.
Memorial donations can be made to the Jonathan E. Boe Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of the CLU Development Office, 60 W. Olsen Road, Thousand Oaks.
Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo handled the arrangements.
