Though technically in Oak Creek, the Irvine Co. has proposed building the city’s next community park at the corner of Barranca Parkway and Sand Canyon Road for residents of Orangetree.

Community parks, such as those in Northwood or Deerfield, typically are situated within the heart of a particular village, although they are available to all Irvine residents.

But in 1995 the lack of Orangetree play areas prompted the Irvine Co. and city officials to select a site for Oak Creek Community Park that would be readily accessible to Orangetree residents.

Now, the Irvine Co. has proposed a new athletic park of almost 12 acres with a community center, picnic, barbecue and open play areas and tot lot.

The developer is ready to move forward with its conceptual plan, which is scheduled for review by the Community Services Commission at tonight’s meeting, which begins at 6:30 in City Hall, One Civic Center Dr.
